The Power of Pink

Pink is a very beautiful colour.

Let me tell you a little story. I was feeling very depressed today. I woke up in a frantic frenzy this morning because someone was knocking on my front door. By the time I got to the door to try and open it, that someone had disappeared and was nowhere in sight. I then looked to the right-hand side and noticed that someone had delivered a package.

The package had inside it two jackets and a pair of beige tights. One of the jackets was pastel pink and the other was basic black. Apparently, my room-mate had ordered some clothes from an online retailer.

My friend loved the black jacket and the beige pants, but she did not like the pink jacket because she believed it looked “funny” on her. Instead of returning the pink jacket to the supplier for a refund, she gave it to me because she thought it would suit me.

That afternoon, I went to the supermarket to buy some groceries. After I parked my car, I walked towards the shops and a blonde petite lady who was unloading her groceries in her car actually did a 180 to look at my jacket. She smiled at me after seeing the pastel pink hue… or maybe she was just being polite, who knows?

Later on, I went to the cash register at Woolies to pay for my goods and the lad working behind the counter was really cordial and sweet to me. Most of the time, people are not very affable at supermarkets simply because Sydney supermarkets are very busy and congested, but this fellow was very warm and friendly.

After paying for my goods, I went back to my car to exit the parking lot and make my way home. As I was trying to exit the parking lot, another driver was also trying to do that at the same time. He caught a glimpse of me wearing my pink jacket and he let me go ahead of him. What a gentleman!

Maybe this was all just a coincidence. Maybe all 3 of them were just being polite because their mother taught them well. But I like to think that this pastel pink jacket and the feelings this colour evokes added a touch of warmth to the human spirit on this particular day.

I guess I’ll be wearing this colour more often.

  1. This article is class! I always try to wear something pink everyday, whether it’s pink eyshadow or a pink top; I always feel more feminine.

Maybe because the age old motto is “pink makes the boys wink.”

I love your article and I am delighted that you got such a great response from the general public just from wearing pink. It certainly raises the question of, how important are colours?!

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you very much Gayle for your words of encouragement.

Pink makes the boys wink? I’ve never heard of that motto before. I definitely use a lot of sayings and proverbs in my everyday speech. That’s another saying to add to my repertoire.

      Thank you for your support.

  2. Hi there,

Great story. I guess pink has some pretty powerful effects. When worn correctly, it can cause some attractive effects. I like your story. It has a good flow and is quite entertaining. I’m not a fan of pink, but after reading, I suddenly have images of me wearing a pink outfit and how much attention I get from the ladies… Point is that I enjoyed your story. Thank you.

  3. Hi Melodia, what a nice story and very well written. What a sweet friend for giving you a beautiful pink jacket. As I read your story, I envisioned you in the pink jacket. I would bet you were glowing (loving colors and wearing this beautiful pink) and that’s what the people you met saw that day. I love colors too.

    1. Thank you very much Wilma. I really appreciate the feedback. I will definitely be wearing pink more often.
