One thing that’s great about being born in October is that you get to pick between two beautiful birthstones: opal or pink tourmaline.
The Significance of Opal
The opal is the stone that signifies 14 years of marriage. It is also known as “the queen of all gems” because it includes all the colours of all the gems.
The opal is very versatile because it changes colour.
There are 2 types of opals: precious and common. Precious opals have shifting colours while common ones do not.
Opals are mainly found in Australia, but some can be found in other parts of the world such as Ethiopia, Nevada and Mexico. Check out this cool video from Opal Auctions which discusses briefly how opals are formed.
One silly myth would have it that opals bring bad luck to the wearer. This is simply untrue.

Pink tourmaline is another gemstone that October babies can opt for. Like the opal, tourmaline has also been known to display all the colours in the one gemstone.
Pink tourmalines can range from pale pink to deep red. Their texture can vary from transparent to rough.
Tourmalines can be found all over the world, yet they are quite rare and expensive.
Pink tourmaline is known to promote love, compassion and gentleness in the wearer. Pink tourmaline is also said to aid in removing depression and anxiety. According to this video from Gemporia, tourmaline is also known as the stone of wisdom.
