Welcome to August, the last month of winter here in Australia. Woo hoo!
Winter is slowly coming to an end and I couldn’t be happier. I’m so over the cold, chilly weather.
On another note, I went to the jewellery shop today and saw some beautiful birthstones that all relate to the month of August.
In the US, the birthstones for August are Peridot and Spinel. Here in Australia, we have other colourful birthstones for the month of August: sardonyx, carnelian, moonstone and topaz.
I am especially captivated by the beautiful colours that characterise Peridot and Spinels, so this article will focus on these two beautiful birthstones.
Peridot has a beautiful lime green colour. In ancient times, it was believed that Peridot was a confidence booster. It was somewhat of a “power suit” and instilled self-belief in the wearer. Peridot is also believed to promote health and wealth.
Spinels are very similar in appearance to rubies. Spinels can be found in rich red colours as well as orange, pink and purple. In Burma, there are special hot pink spinels which have a tinge of orange.
Spinels are just as beautiful as rubies and are believed to protect the owner from harm and soothe depression. However, they are rarer than rubies. Blue spinels are the rarest types of spinels and are extremely hard to find.
These colours are really beautiful. I have already purchased a Ruby-red ring, and I am fascinated by its lustrous colour and how happy it makes me just by looking at it.
